a few new things

Ah, as the pandemic goes on, and on, and on. Waiting for the big day when it ends is starting to seem futile. But it does allow for getting things sorted. Sometimes weird things. Since the last post I’ve been back and forth between Park City, Utah and Southern Nevada a couple of times. This is part of the normal Summer process of looking after the place down there when it is too hot and therefore too expensive because of cooling costs to spend a bunch of time there. We did make a trip to Montana for a family thing and that was quite enjoyable, although a bit hard when not at the family gathering. The costs and delays associated with obtaining almost everything in western Montana right now, or at least when we were there in July, are pretty crazy. Hopefully that gets resolved when the opening of other travel destinations to Americans take away some of the tourism pressure. A few more photos from western Montana are included in my photo galleries. There is also a similar minor addition to the galleries for Southern Nevada taken during the few weeks spent there this Summer.

The Summer in Park City has been a little difficult with it being either very hot in a place where few people have air conditioners, or extremely smoky. There was a local fire which was doused by rain before it reached any neighborhoods. But the real problem has been smoke from the fires in Oregon and California. For the second Summer in a row it has been pretty bad. It is a little amazing because the fires are five-hundred or more miles away and the smoke persists for weeks into months and is really quite dense. We are used to being a little bit fortunate and located above the bad air that is a persistent winter problem in Salt Lake City. But in this case we often have it worse than they do. During the second half of the season we’ve had our small share of abnormal heavy rain. Small relative to places like New Orleans and New York. I did get out and about on the Park City trail system, which is a very well funded and developed project, and made a small video of Summertime, Strolling Park City which is now located in my video gallery. I’ve been walking these trails or similar trails that have fallen to development for a long time.

I’ve had time to tackle several things on my site and have added new sections and fleshed out others that were wanting more attention. It still isn’t complete but I really don’t see it as something that will be complete. It is an evolving organic thing. Soon I’ll be adding a page on code and probably galleries, similar to the photo galleries, focused on illustration and design. I’ve added most of the first of three volumes of short stories to a new page called words. These were written quite a while ago, edited somewhat prior to posting, and a few could be considered controversial. It is fun to post them nonetheless. I should be adding the other stories, magazine clippings, and something on technical writing at some point in the future.
